The Portage Northern High School

Football Program Mission Statement

 

The mission of the Portage Northern High School football program is to be among the elite football programs in the MHSAA. This will be demonstrated by sustaining a high level of excellence on the playing field, while maintaining the highest standards of:

 

INTEGRITY:

Total Administration of the program within the rules and regulations of the high school, conference and MHSAA.

 

ACADEMICS:

Parallel a championship attitude in the classroom that is equal to our championship attitude on the field.

 

SPORTSMANSHIP:

Work and play within the rules of football at all times.

 

Be exemplary in our play to draw praise from our opponents for our rough, fair play at all times.

 

Coach and play with the sincere interest in the safety and welfare of all participants who are on the field.

 

CHARACTER:

Represent ourselves, our family, our team, our high school, and the game of football in a way that brings credit and respect to our team both on and off the field.

 

Give of ourselves by working within the community and the high school to enrich the lives of those who may be less fortunate.

 

COMMITED TO “FINDING THE EGDE”:

Regardless of the barriers we will never quit working to be champions as long as we are associated with Portage Northern High School. We will always live with the spirit and enthusiasm of becoming champions, Our actions and our results will display our commitment.

 

 

Program Goals

I.                  ACADEMICS

 

A.   Graduate 100% of all those who complete their eligibility.

B.   Accomplish a higher graduation rate than the general student body for all classes.

C.   Class attendance performance exceed class attendance requirement (including study session).

D.   Lower our percentage of students on academic probation to less than 0%.

E.    Lower our dependence on summer school for eligibility purposes to less than 0% for the entire team.

F.    Earn post graduate academic scholarships.

 

II.               RECRUITING

 

A.   Have our players become recruited.

B.   Have at least four players go on to play college football annually.

 

III.           PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT

 

A.   Show documented physical success (strength, speed, endurance).

B.   Show documented durable success.
